Mind and Destiny

“I make no pretension to patriotism. So long as my voice can be heard ... I will hold up America to the lightning scorn of moral indignation. In doing this, I shall feel myself discharging the duty of a true patriot; for he is a lover of his country who rebukes and does not excuse its sins. It is righteousness that exalteth a nation while sin is a reproach to any people.”- Frederick Douglass

Unintended Consequences

We should have learned a lesson, from Vietnam and Iraq, that spilling American blood and treasure will weakened our country.

We have the most powerful military on Earth.  We spend more on our military than the next eight nations combined.  No nation dares to attack us or our allies because they know that is a path to their destruction.

China’s economy is growing at its slowest rate in the last 25 years.  Russia is pouring military resources to prop up Syria to prevent them slipping away from their orbit.

Our military, CIA, and FBI are focused on destroying ISIL, in Syria, Iraq, and, the terrorist among us, who are plotting to kill civilians.  Terrorist aren’t a threaten our national existence, but that is the propaganda ISIL uses to recruit.  We must not confirm their propaganda, because terrorist don’t represent of one of the world's largest religions.  We must not push away our Muslim allies.  We simply need to recognize that terrorist are religious fanatics, who kill innocent people and continue to hunted them down.

The Obama administration led a coalition of more than 60 countries to cut off ISIL's financing, disrupt their plots, and stop the flow of terrorist fighters.  Over 9,700 air strikes in Iraq and Syria depleted their leadership, oil supplies, training camps, weapons and a cash storage facility.  We’re training, and arming forces who are steadily reclaiming territory in those countries.

Justice is being done.  Osama bin Laden, and the leader of al Qaeda in Yemen have been killed.  The perpetrator of the Benghazi attacks is in a prison cell.  It may take time, but we have long memories, and the reach of our military has no limit.

Carpet bombing of innocent civilians, or a preemptive nuclear attack on North Korea could result in catastrophic unintended consequences.
