Mind and Destiny

“I make no pretension to patriotism. So long as my voice can be heard ... I will hold up America to the lightning scorn of moral indignation. In doing this, I shall feel myself discharging the duty of a true patriot; for he is a lover of his country who rebukes and does not excuse its sins. It is righteousness that exalteth a nation while sin is a reproach to any people.”- Frederick Douglass

On Roe vs. Wade

An anonymous post on the“Sound Off” feature of The Oneonta Daily Star argued: “Seriously, what business is it of some old white guy whether I have a baby or not?  Take my advice, all you self-righteous, mostly male anti-abortionists — mind your own business.  I join millions of women who will never again acknowledge anyone else’s right to interfere with my health care decisions.  You are free to follow your beliefs, leave me free to follow mine.  My Body, My Life, My Decision!  I say hurray for Roe v. Wade!  Since 1973, women have had the amazing, exhilarating, delightful, empowering freedom to make the yea or nay decision on pregnancy themselves.  Face the facts, fellas, you can’t put the genie back in the bottle.  The 1973 Roe v. Wade decision set women free and we will never give that up.  My Body, My Life, My Decision!”
Retired Marine General Anthony Zinni was sent as a special envoy to the Middle East.  Israel Foreign Minister Shimon Peres advised Zinni: "Don’t waste your time with (the righteous).  You’ll find them on both sides, and they’re always going to appeal to the righteousness of their cause... There’s no negotiating with righteousness.  Yes, it’s their right to believe what they believe...  They interpret facts from their religious angle and they ignore facts that don’t support that."

The righteous of Judaism, Islam and Christianity impose the teachings of their religion onto other citizens as part of their authoritarian political agenda.  Righteousness is at the core of many conflicts, and a women’s right to abortion is one of them.  Righteousness refuses to allow women the right to an abortion.

Historically, an unworthy Republican Party ignores the First amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting or establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."
