Mind and Destiny

“I make no pretension to patriotism. So long as my voice can be heard ... I will hold up America to the lightning scorn of moral indignation. In doing this, I shall feel myself discharging the duty of a true patriot; for he is a lover of his country who rebukes and does not excuse its sins. It is righteousness that exalteth a nation while sin is a reproach to any people.”- Frederick Douglass

Mike Flynn Resigns

President Donald Trump's National Security Adviser, Mike Flynn has resigned.  Apparently, he had discussed US sanctions on Russia with the Russian ambassador before Trump took office.

I credit Senator Al Franken for Flynn’s resignation.  He pointed out on CNN: "Either he was lying about not having discussed that, or he forgot.  I don't think you want a guy who'd forget that."
An aide close to Flynn had said, that he has "no recollection of discussing sanctions, but couldn't be certain that the topic never came up."

Franken called for an investigation into Trump's business ties with Russia, and complained that he still has not released his personal income tax returns.  Franken commented: "He's got a bit of a Putin crush, and I want to know how much of that is tied maybe to financials."

Franken called for an independent counsel to investigate Trump, or a probe led by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and  Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, who are respectively the chairman and the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism.

He suggested: "There's going to have to be an independent investigation into the Trump campaign and the Trump administration's relationship to Russia.  Russia interfered in this campaign.  We know that, although Trump denied it for a long time.  We have not seen the President's income tax.  His son said a few years ago that an inordinate amount of money was coming in from Russia investing in them."

Franken explained:"We need something transparent and we need an investigation because we don't know what he owes Russia.  We don't know how many Russian oligarchs are invested in his business.  He has sidled up to Putin in so many ways."

Mike Flynn was an advocate of President Trump's plans to ease the hostility in our relations Russia.
