Mind and Destiny

“I make no pretension to patriotism. So long as my voice can be heard ... I will hold up America to the lightning scorn of moral indignation. In doing this, I shall feel myself discharging the duty of a true patriot; for he is a lover of his country who rebukes and does not excuse its sins. It is righteousness that exalteth a nation while sin is a reproach to any people.”- Frederick Douglass

The Oneonta Daily Star published the following letter that was submitted by Joe Stillman of Oneonta.
“To those of you who voted for Donald Trump, congratulations!  You have elected one the least-qualified persons to ever run for this office in our country’s history.  As you know, he has never served a day in the military or in a public capacity and has spent the bulk of his life making money at the expense of hundreds of others who he has failed to pay as a common business practice.  Perhaps that’s why he has over 3,500 pending lawsuits against him.
“His treatment of women is disgraceful and his behavior to that end has left a trail of victims that most of you don’t seem to care about.
“The real tragedy is that you have endorsed a man who is a pathological liar and would use any means possible to get what he wants.  He’s an unscrupulous exploiter of people who has the potential to possibly start a war, which could literally destroy life on the face of this planet as we know it.
“If you think his unfiltered mind and mouth will make America great again, let’s hope you’re right.  But his recent Russian ties are only the tip of the iceberg and underscore the type of man you have chosen to lead the free world.  A reality TV host is, ironically, the most powerful man in the world, and that’s a pretty sobering thought.  He could prove to be our worst national nightmare.  Let’s hope that Congress will do the right thing and get to the bottom of his transgressions, and pray that this beloved planet of ours, not to mention our great country, can survive his presidency and the damage that is sure to follow.”
