Mind and Destiny

“I make no pretension to patriotism. So long as my voice can be heard ... I will hold up America to the lightning scorn of moral indignation. In doing this, I shall feel myself discharging the duty of a true patriot; for he is a lover of his country who rebukes and does not excuse its sins. It is righteousness that exalteth a nation while sin is a reproach to any people.”- Frederick Douglass

Que Será, Será

When I was just a little girl  I asked my mother, what will I be
Will I be pretty  Will I be rich  Here's what she said to me

Que será, será  Whatever will be, will be.  The future's not ours to see
Que será, será  What will be, will be.

When I grew up and fell in love  I asked my sweetheart, what lies ahead
Will we have rainbows, day after day  Here's what my sweetheart said

Que será, sera  Whatever will be, will be.  The future's not ours to see
Que será, será  What will be, will be.

Que será, será is Spanish, and the song became a number one hit for singer Doris Day.  It’s something that you might say when you’re stuck in a hopelessly unchangeable situation, and have come to accept your situation as unchangeable.  A similar phrase is: “It is what it is.”

Obviously, being pretty or rich will never result in rainbows day after day.  Nobody goes through life without experiencing adversity.  When bad things start occurring, it’s time to stay calm and carry on.  Remember that throughout our history our ancestors have had to persevere through much more difficult times.  Many endured slavery, the Civil War, and the Great Depression.

Unfortunately, many Americans seem to be using the words of the song as an excuse for not changing their self destructive lifestyle.  Those that want  to overcome obesity, stop smoking, and their addiction to alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs, need to seek help.  It takes time and often requires taking small steps one at a time.  Changing lifestyles isn’t easy, but it happening every day

Solutions to our medical problems are available, if you seek competent professional advice early on.  Medical professionals are able do thing that some would consider a miracle.
