Mind and Destiny

“I make no pretension to patriotism. So long as my voice can be heard ... I will hold up America to the lightning scorn of moral indignation. In doing this, I shall feel myself discharging the duty of a true patriot; for he is a lover of his country who rebukes and does not excuse its sins. It is righteousness that exalteth a nation while sin is a reproach to any people.”- Frederick Douglass

Nominating Ideologues

Reportedly, 7 in 10 voters support legal abortion.  Republican National Committee, Chairman Reince Priebus said that Trump has narrowed his list of Supreme Court picks to "five or six."  But, according to Politico, the two favorites for the nomination are anti-choice ideologues Diane Sykes and William Pryor.

Diane Sykes applauded the criminal motivations of anti-abortion protestors who had been arrested more than 100 times.  She praising their "fine characters" and "pure" motivations as they forcibly blocked the entrance of a women's health clinic.

William Pryor is a protege of Trump’s attorney general nominee Jeff Sessions.  In 1986, President Reagan nominated Sessions to be a federal judge, but he was rejected by a Republican-controlled Senate panel, who voted to block his nomination.  He was considered to be too racist.  As an Alabama senator, Jeff Sessions was accused of warning a black colleague to be careful about what he said to “white folks.”

His protégé, Pryor famously called Roe v. Wade “the worst abomination in the history of constitutional law.”  Pryor has also claimed that organizations that protect our civil rights, such as the ACLU and NAACP, are "un-American."

Had Hillary Clinton won the Electoral College vote instead of the Popular vote, she would have nominate Supreme Court justices, who would stand up for women's rights to make a choice, and the rights of the LGBT community.  She’d nominate justices that wouldn’t allow Roe v. Wade, or marriage equality to be reverse.  Hillary understands the heart wrenching decision, that a woman has to make.  The decision shouldn’t be made by ideologues, or racist on our Supreme Court.

If the decision is left up to the states, wealthy women could visit a state that respects a woman’s right to an abortion, but many poorer women wouldn’t have that option.
