Mind and Destiny

“I make no pretension to patriotism. So long as my voice can be heard ... I will hold up America to the lightning scorn of moral indignation. In doing this, I shall feel myself discharging the duty of a true patriot; for he is a lover of his country who rebukes and does not excuse its sins. It is righteousness that exalteth a nation while sin is a reproach to any people.”- Frederick Douglass

Political Expediency

The choice is between Hillary Clinton who is totally qualified to run for the office of president, and has repeatedly proven that she understand the issues that working families are facing on the one hand.  And on the other hand, we have the Republican nominee for president, Donald Trump who every time he talks seem to prove himself unfit and unqualified for the office.
Many of the Republican congressional candidates, who are running for office have recently started to withdrawn their support of Trump.  They’ve made that decision only after looking at the polling.  They recognize that it’s politically expedient to withdraw their support.
Apparently, it was okay when Trump was attacking minorities, and suggesting that Mexicans were rapists and Muslims were unpatriotic, and insulting Gold Star mothers, and making fun of disabled Americans.  Why did they wait so long?
Voting for a Republican candidate for Congress risks giving Trump the congressional majority he’ll need to roll back the significant progress that that the Obama administration has made over the past eight years.
Most Republicans don’t think the way Donald Trump does, but the problem is that Republican politicians have been feeding their base crazy conspiracy theories for many years, primarily for political expedience.
For five years, Trump perpetuated a false claim that the nation’s first black president was not a natural-born citizen.  Obama’s birth certificate was produced in 2011, and he continued to question our president’s legitimacy in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015.

Furthermore, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy recently told Sean Hannity on Fox News that the Select Committee on Benghazi, chaired by Rep. Trey Gowdy was essentially designed to take Hillary Clinton down in the presidential election.  After 16 months and more than $4.5 million, the committee gained no additional insight into the attacks in Benghazi.
