Mind and Destiny

“I make no pretension to patriotism. So long as my voice can be heard ... I will hold up America to the lightning scorn of moral indignation. In doing this, I shall feel myself discharging the duty of a true patriot; for he is a lover of his country who rebukes and does not excuse its sins. It is righteousness that exalteth a nation while sin is a reproach to any people.”- Frederick Douglass

Biggest Farce

In 2013, Oklahoma Senator Inhofe claimed that Benghazi was the biggest cover-up in American history, and a reason to impeach President Obama.

The attack on our diplomatic facility in Libya in the fall of 2012 resulted in our ambassador and three other Americans being killed.  There were a dozen attacks on our embassies during the Bush administration.  What are the grounds for impeaching Obama, and not other presidents when it happened on their watch?

Initially, our intelligence community thought it was a spontaneous attack and have since admitted that they were wrong.  The House Select Committee on Benghazi has passed the Watergate Committee as the lengthiest investigation in congressional history.  The committee has a staff of 18 people, who are paid an average of $128,000 apiece.  Apart from harassing Hillary Clinton, that committee has nothing to report.

Career counterterrorism expert Richard Clarke who served under four presidents beginning as an analyst on nuclear weapons under Reagan and established a record for continuous service in national security policy positions, emphasized that there is nothing more that can be learn from another House committee investigation of Benghazi.  He insisted: “This has been completely examined many times.  And we shouldn’t even dignify this with pretending that it’s a serious effort.  The fact of the matter is everyone in Washington, on both sides of the aisle, knows this is a political stunt, and that’s all that it is.  It’s a political stunt using the lives of dead Americans, and there’s no reason in my mind to give the Republicans or anybody who says that this is serious any credibility whatsoever.  Just call it for what it is.”

Lawrence Wilkerson, former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell said: “I think the Accountability Review Board headed by ambassador, Tom Pickering and former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mike Mullen, whom I have a great deal of respect, have looked at Benghazi thoroughly and made their recommendations, which are being implemented.”

Benghazi has been investigated by the House Intelligence Committee, the Senate Intelligence Committee; the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform; the House Armed Services Committee; the House Foreign Affairs Committee; the Senate Armed Services Committee, and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Furthermore, the 11-hour interrogation of Hillary Clinton, by Republican members of the House Select Committee on Benghazi last November turned out to be the biggest farce.
