The Republican Party’s agenda is to benefit corporations by pushing down wages, maximizing profits, cutting health care benefits, and laying off workers. Today’s troubled economy is the result of weak regulation, lax oversight, a blind eye to corporate excess and a cold shoulder to a middle class under siege.
Christopher Gibson said, that his “candidacy is proof that a message of reducing taxes, curbing government spending, eliminating onerous regulations and reducing health care costs resonates with the citizens of the 20th District.'' The message of reducing taxes, curbing government spending, and eliminating onerous regulations is right out of the Republican play book.
Before the health insurance reform law was enacted in March, Gibson called on Murphy to vote against it, stating: “This is a bad bill and we need to let it die and then start over again, focusing on driving down health care costs. We need legislation that encourages increased competition and tort reform, and combats fraud, waste, and abuse.”
Murphy voted for the health care reform bill, noting that the Congressional Budget Office had calculated, that it will save taxpayers about $140 billion in its first decade, and $1.2 trillion in the following decade.
This recession was a failure of responsibility by the Bush and congressional Republicans, that Obama had publicly addressed more than two years. In 2007, Obama insisted, that he believe in the power of the free market and in a strong financial sector that helps people to raise capital, get loans and invest their savings. However, a free market was never meant to be a free license to take whatever you can get, and that's what frequently happened in the years leading up to this economic crisis.
I monitor the voting records of our Senators, and Scott Murphy our representative in the 20th. congressional district. There are a few insignificant differences, but on most legislation his votes are the same Schumer and Gillibrand.
